Magvel Fader Pro, performance pads and effect levers
Building on the success of the DJM-S11, the DJM-S5 features the same familiar layout The new and improved design boasts a strengthened Magvel Fader Pro for improved stability – perfect for even the most demanding scratch performances. You can customise how the crossfader feels by using the front-panel calibration control. The transparent panel allows you to see how the control works behind the scenes.
The built-in performance pads you to trigger samples, finger-drum, incorporate sound FX and much more. The performance pads feature 13 pad modes in total including Hot Cue and Sampler modes. Two large effect levers allow you to control up to 57 effects (when using Serato DJ Pro), which were also incorporated from the DJM-S11 design. The levers provide hands-on control for triggering effects allowing you to turn them on/off by placing the lever in different positions.
Scratch Cutter – scratching made easy!
Whilst the design of the DJM-S5 is geared toward professionals and scratch veterans it also includes the new and innovative ‘Scratch Cutter’ function. This unique mode allows you to choose between six different cutting patterns and trigger them using one of the effect levers. Once you have selected your chosen cutting pattern, all you have to do is move your jog wheel (or control vinyl) back and forth to trigger the pattern. This allows you to sound like the pros and build up your scratching skills from the ground up.
From here, the mixer will apply a cutting effect to the music and emulate crossfader movements so you can focus on your timing and scratching abilities. It is the perfect starting point for those who want to learn how to scratch but don’t know where to start. Activating the ‘Crossfader Hot Cue’ feature allows you to create scratch-style sounds by quickly moving the crossfader. Moving the fader away from the edge will make the track/sample play from the most recent Hoe Cue point.
