Avid Pro Tools 11 is the new standard for Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs), building on the previous version to now feature 64-bit architecture and a whole new Avid audio engine.
Pro Tools has been the standard for professional studio productions for years, and Pro Tools 11 will come as a welcome release for many as it now operates in 64-bit, multiplying the amount of processing power that it can use from its host computer.
As well as 64-bit operation, Pro Tools 11 now features offline bouncing, meaning users no longer have to mix down their recordings in real time. The new Low Latency Buffer mode ensures low latency audio monitoring with dedicated input and playback buffers without the need to compromise on plug-in use.
The new Avid Video Engine, taken from Avid Media Composer, enables the playing and editing of HD video in Pro Tools itself. There have been improvements to the Workspace Browser, making it easier than ever to search for audio files.
Another new feature of Pro Tools 11 is the inclusion of enhanced metering facilities, which provide a whole host of new options including PPM, VU and K-style metering. These improvements will be a huge asset for any Pro Tools users working in post-production and broadcast environments, as well as studio mix engineers.
With its 64bit operation, many plug-in developers are yet to offer 64bit versions, therefore Pro Tools 10 comes with Pro Tools 10 for both versions to be installed together, meaning projects can be hosted by either version until developers release 64bit versions of external plug-ins.
