AKAI MPC Renaissance Product Description
There’s a lot more to the new Music Production Centre from AKAI than meets the eye. The AKAI MPC Renaissance is a fully fledged MPC groove box featuring vintage sounds from the archives of AKAI's factory, with integrated 64 step sequencing software and a USB 2.0 audio interface, all built into a rock solid classic grey chassis.
The heart of the unit incorporates 16 classic MPC pads, illuminating in a retro orange or yellow colour when triggered. Keeping you in the know is a bright backlit LCD screen, enabling you to view different sound banks and parameter movements.
To the right are the transport controls and a beefy jog wheel to scroll through the hardware/software settings. Take full control of various envelope parameters with 16 rotary pots, tracked by LED lights. As a stand-alone MIDI controller all the controls can be assigned to any music software parameter that accepts general MIDI signals.
Located on the rear are two high quality combo inputs with 6.3mm Jack and XLR connections. Switchable +48v phantom is available to power studio condenser microphones, along with two RCA (Phono) inputs to hook up a turntable. 2 pairs of stereo jack outputs connect to 2 pairs of monitor speakers. The MID IO is quite substantial offering 2 inputs and 4 outputs to connect external MIDI hardware. A clever feature found on the rear is the two USB 2.0 inputs, basically acting as a hub for external USB devices such as iLok keys and USB MID controllers.
The MPC software is loaded with a 6 GB sound library featuring sounds from previous MPC groove boxes including the MPC3000. The software can run stand-alone or as a plug-in within your favourite DAW software, with support for all legacy MPC file formats.
