A real workhorse
Thanks to the inclusion of a custom-designed FPGA and eight HDX DSPs, the Carbon is as good as it gets. The inclusion of the FPGA allows you to record at almost near-zero latency, whilst the HDX DSP are ideal for taking on real-time processing as you produce, mix and master. Their ability to perform 22.4 billion operations per second ensures that no matter how intricate your session is, you'll be able to record with a mere sub-1 ms of latency. This puts less strain on your operating system, guaranteeing a long-lasting-life!
Ultra-transparent sound
At the heart of a great interface lies great audio converters and it doesn't get much better than the Carbon. Consisting of four ADCs per channel, each preamp provides you with a staggering 126dB of dynamic range. These have been specifically designed to operate at 32-bit precision, guaranteeing maximum headroom without any signal loss. Each and every recording will sound wholly natural, so much so that trying to make the sound of the room translate to the speakers will become an effortless endeavor thanks to this interface.
Studio-grade preamps
Avid opted for a padless design to ensure the finest signal reproduction. Thanks to their vast dynamic range and expansive audio conversion, these are the finest preamps Avid has ever made. You'll be free to capture any performance without the risk of colouration. However, fear not. If you miss the "vintage mojo" of legendary analog preamps then the Carbon's preamps can be bypassed so you can utilise your own external outboard.
The Variable Z serves to provide you with infinite tonal shaping possibilities at source. This allows you to manipulate the input impedance of each channel to change the sound of microphones and line-level sources. You can even use your favourite ribbon and dynamic microphones to record the most delicate of parts without worrying about hiss detracting from those all important performances.
Optimised clocking
Avid understand the importance of clocking. It's absolutely imperative if you desire your audio to be free from distortion and artifacts. The inclusion of JetPLL jitter elimination technology is designed to run at double the resolution of traditional clocks. This provides you with an even higher level of sound quality and separation.
