Key Info
Welcome To The World Of Microphone Modeling
The Antelope Audio Edge microphone is designed to be used with Antelope Audio's Discrete preamp interfaces. The interfaces feature FPGA Accusonic modeling. The software features detailed real-time emulations of classic condenser microphones. The software allows you to choose from an array of different mics to perform with. The Edge microphone can accurately emulate different polar patterns, off-axis response, and proximity effect, allowing you to get a different range of tones from one microphone. What sets the Edge apart from everyone else is that it runs real-time on the FPGA. This means you can audition different microphones, and switch between them in real-time. It is especially handy if you already have a singer or performer in the recording booth, but don't want to keep changing microphones. Using the Accusonic 3D modeling software allows you to switch between different microphones, and microphone preamps. You never need to worry about getting the perfect take, and then suddenly realising you should have changed microphones, as the software allows you to switch microphone emulation after recording.
Great Sounding Microphone
The Edge microphone is a dual capsule design that is edge mounted. This results in a much smoother response compared to center mounted capsules. This approach helps to accurately and smoothly model the classic expensive microphones. The edge mounting approach is one that was employed on very popular vintage microphones. The Edge microphone can model several vintage mics including the U47, U67, U87, M49, M149, UMB57, TLM013, and many more.
Accusonic Inside The FPGA
Plug the Edge into your Discrete audio interface's preamps, and you can transform it into any one of several vintage tube, transformer, and FET-based microphones. Antelope's FPGA is the perfect modeling platform for monitoring, and recording performances in real-time. You can choose to record with or without modeling, as the microphone itself sounds great on its own too. However, you will also have the choice to switch between an array of classic microphone emulations during mixdown, allowing you to get the sound you want.
Combining The Edge With Discrete Interface
When using the Edge microphone with Antelope Audio's Discrete 8, or 4 preamp interface, you have a lot of flexibility for controlling polar patterns, off-axis response, and proximity effect. You can have up to 4 or 8 mics connected at once (depending on which interface). Combine both the Edge and Verge microphones with the Discrete preamp interface, to fully experience the new 3D microphone modeling technology.
