Focusrite Liquid Saffire 56

The Focusrite Liquid Saffire 56 is a 2U FireWire audio interface with a massive channel count, including six high-quality Saffire mic preamps and two third-generation Liquid preamps. The Liquid preamps make use of Focusrite's dynamic convolution technology to accurately model the characteristics of ten different high-end preamps, including the revered Neve 1073, Pultec MB-1 and Telefunken V-72.
The front panel houses the gain knobs for each of the eight preamps, as well as switches for Phantom Power, High-Pass Filters and a Phase switch for the Saffire preamps on Channels 5 and 7. This lets you use channels 5 & 6, and 7 & 8 as stereo pairs, switching the Phase of one channel if required. The front panel also houses hi-Z jack inputs for channels 3 and 4, eight five-LED meters, monitor level controls and two headphone outputs with individual volume controls.

The Saffire Mix Control software provides detailed control over the two Liquid preamps, enabling you to select which emulation to use and define the amount of harmonic distortion imparted to the signal by that model. Dial this control down for a cleaner more modern-sounding recording, while still capturing the qualities of the original preamps as if you were using a new factory clone of the preamp. Or dial it up to emulate a vintage model, with plenty of harmonic saturation to give your recording a grittier edge. In addition to the Liquid preamps, the Saffire Mix Control software also controls the built-in 18x16 DSP mixer, which provides zero-latency routing inside the hardware, enabling you to create custom monitoring and routing options. The two virtual loopback channels are also controlled from the Saffire Mix Control, enabling you to route audio between applications.Alongside the eight XLR mic inputs on the rear of the unit, are eight analogue TRS inputs and ten analogue TRS outputs, two eight-channel ADAT optical I/O pairs, S/PDIF I/O, MIDI I/O, Word-Clock I/O and two FireWire ports. This brings the full channel count to eight analogue inputs, eighteen digital inputs, ten analogue outputs and eighteen digital outputs, plus the two virtual loopback channels.
