Novation unveils Bass Station II, a brand new version of the original BassStation released in 1993. Bass Station II is a powerful analogue synth keyboard that’s made for bass but equally well adapted to leads. Bass Station II has been completely re-worked for the 21st century, with two filters, three oscillators, patch save and a fully-analogue effects section. Plus there’s a step sequencer, arpeggiator, a two octave (25-note) velocity-sensitive keyboard with full-sized keys and a powerful modulation section. There’s even MIDI I/O and USB connectivity.

This brief history is told by Venom Synth designer Taiho Yamada giving us an insight into the  development of M-Audio’s first ever analog synthesizer.

I originally thought Venom would be white.

That seems like an odd thing to say, considering that Venom actually is painted white, but I think you’d be amazed at the incredible journey it took to finally get there. In this blog post, I’m going to pull back the curtain a bit on the design of Venom, and give you a peek at what it’s like to work with a group of colleagues who are so passionate about synthesizers. Sometimes, gaining consensus between various viewpoints can be quite frustrating, but after all of the “spirited” debates, the end result is a finished product that’s the best it can be.

Officially announced at NAMM 2011, Rob Papen Punch is a virtual drum synthesizer which is the first foray into percussive based instruments from Dutch sofware developer Rob Papen. With a rich arsenal of software synths already in the Rob Papen product line, Punch will complement the likes of SubBoomBass and Predator to give producers and complete set of virtual instruments to create with.

Punch allows the user to combine synthesis and sampling to create brand new sounds in a quick and easy way that is typical of Rob Papen software , there is even a control called ‘Punch’ so tweaking is really nice and simple. The aim of Avid’s new synth is to combine the warm sound and character of vintage keyboards with the intuitive control and workflow advantages of modern digital processing, hoping it will provide cutting-edge sound options to musicians of all skill levels.
